Hello Montreal permaculture community!

It doesn’t snow yet so we take advantage of this opportunity Mother Earth gives us to have another permablitz! This time we will help Melanie, her husband and 3 kids and their neighbours (family of 5 as well) to change a front house bitumen area into a fantastic veggie garden. It will become a place where kids, parents and birds like to spend time and will inspire the whole neighbourhood.

Here is the program for this promising day:

• Prepare the soil:
  • Pick up lots of free compost (to do before the permablitz day. We need help!)
  • get rid of 50 cm of poor soil (the bitumen has been removed)
  • aerate the soil with a U-bar digger
  • mix some good soil with compost and spread it
  • Adjust the garden with alleys
  • Recover with straw and cardboard
• Make an herb spiral
• Install a rainwater collecting system
• Create a pond using a bath tub

This is an ambitious plan and to make this day happen, we need material and help! So make this day a collective advance on the way to sustainability! If you have one or several of those, please tell us, and bring it with you on the permablitz day:

• something to share for lunch
• cardboard
• shovels
• thin wooden poles (no more than 2 cms wide)
• old bricks (where can we pick it?)
• chicken wire
• old bath tub (where can we pick it?)
• old hose
• old 55 gallon barrel
• wood chips
• strong grid to cover the bath tub (kid security)

WHEN?? Sunday December 6th, starting at 10am – cancelled if bad weather
